Blood Orange “Moro”

The Moro orange is a variety of blood orange, known for its characteristic dark red color of the pulp. This variety is particularly appreciated for its balance between sweetness and a slight sour note, with a rich flavor and a bit of raspberry flavor that sets it apart from other oranges.

Externally, the Moro orange can resemble an ordinary orange with its skin of color between orange and red. However, inside, the pulp reveals shades ranging from ruby red to almost dark purple, depending on the ripeness and growing conditions.

Moro oranges are rich in antioxidants, especially anthocyanins, which are responsible for their unique red color. These substances are known for their health benefits, including anti-inflammatory and heart protection effects. The Moro variety is also a good source of vitamin C, fiber and other important nutrients.

These oranges are often used in the kitchen to give a unique touch of color and flavor to salads, desserts, and drinks. Their juice, of a lively red color, is equally popular and offers a tasty alternative to traditional orange juice. Moro oranges are mainly grown in the Mediterranean basin and are available in winter and early spring.
