Cherries “Ferrovia”

Cherries are small round fruits belonging to the Rosaceae family, the same as plums, peaches and apricots. They are known for their smooth and shiny skin, which varies in color from bright red to almost black, depending on the variety. Inside each cherry is a small hard seed, or core.

Cherries have a taste that varies from sweet to slightly sour, making them very popular for both fresh consumption and use in a variety of culinary preparations, such as cakes, preserves, drinks and desserts. Sweet cherries are commonly eaten fresh, while the most acidic varieties are often used in cooking.

From a nutritional point of view, cherries are rich in vitamins (especially vitamin C), antioxidants and other beneficial phytonutrients. They are known for their anti-inflammatory properties and can help improve sleep thanks to their melatonin content.

Cherries grow on trees and are available in different varieties that ripen at different times during the hot season. They are particularly appreciated during spring and early summer, when they are at their peak of freshness and flavor.
